Howard Marcus Memorial Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Wharf To Wharf Race
Since 1989 two Howard Marcus Scholarships are awarded each year — one to a young man and one to a young woman — to honor the memory of Howard Marcus. Marcus was a long-serving member of the Wharf to Wharf Race organizing committee, a devoted family man, a basketball coach, a respected attorney and author, and a strong supporter of youth track & field. In 1983 he established the Star Track Club, which later evolved into the present-day Santa Cruz Track Club. He also helped make the first all‑weather track in Santa Cruz County a reality by leading the effort to build the facility at Soquel High School in 1986.
