Overview
The Oregon Dairy Women scholarships support students connected to dairying or studying fields that affect the dairy industry. Deadlines, award amounts, eligibility rules, and required materials are listed below.
4‑Year College/University Scholarship — $3,000 annually
Eligibility
- Major in Animal Science, Food Science, Veterinary Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, or another discipline that relates to or impacts the dairy industry; OR be the son/daughter of an Oregon dairy family, have worked on an Oregon dairy for at least two years, or have completed a 4‑H or FFA dairy project for four years in Oregon.
- Be a full‑time student at a four‑year college, at least sophomore standing (freshman year must be finished).
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.7.
Renewal
- Recipients who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher in the year they receive the award may reapply in subsequent years and may receive the Scholarship for up to three consecutive years. Each reapplication must include an official transcript showing grades and proof of full‑time enrollment.
2‑Year Community College Scholarship — $1,000 annually
Eligibility
- Be a graduating high school senior planning to attend a community college full‑time in the fall, OR be currently enrolled full‑time at a community college.
- Be the son/daughter of an Oregon dairy family, have worked on a dairy for at least two years, or have completed a 4‑H or FFA dairy project for four years.
ODFA Scholarship — $1,500 annually
Eligibility
- Be the son/daughter of a current Oregon Grade A dairy producer who has paid the ODFA assessment for the past year, and have lived on a dairy.
- Be a full‑time student of at least sophomore standing at a four‑year college or community college. Trade school students are eligible in their first year.
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.7.
- This ODFA award may be received only once per applicant.
Application and Submission Requirements (all programs)
Deadline: All materials must be received by May 1.
Required items:
1. Completed application form (downloadable online).
2. One‑page autobiography describing dairy background plus school and community activities.
3. Three letters of recommendation.
4. Official transcript of grades.
Selection process
Winners are chosen based on the application, autobiography, letters of recommendation, scholastic record, and a personal interview. Note: community college applicants will not be required to complete an interview.
Award payment
If selected, scholarship funds will be distributed in the Fall by the Oregon Dairy Women’s Treasurer to the recipient and the educational institution. Generally, a particular scholarship may be awarded to an applicant only once unless the renewal criteria (see the 4‑year scholarship 3.5 GPA rule) are met. A student who wins the 2‑year $1,000 Community College Scholarship may later apply for the 4‑Year College Scholarship if they meet the eligibility requirements.
