Introduction
The Sharon Stephens Brehm Undergraduate Psychology Scholarships support exceptional undergraduate psychology students who can demonstrate financial need. Awards are intended to offset direct educational costs such as tuition, institutional fees, and required textbooks.
Who is encouraged to apply
The American Psychological Foundation (APF) welcomes applications from individuals of varied ages, races, colors, religions/creeds, national origins, abilities, sexual orientations, genders, and geographic locations.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must:
- Be an undergraduate student majoring in psychology at an accredited college or university.
- Be a declared psychology major for the Fall 2026 semester and plan to remain enrolled during the Spring 2027 semester.
- Hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.
- Demonstrate financial need.
Application materials
Required items:
- Personal statement describing your past, current, and planned involvement in the scientific study and practical application of psychology on campus and elsewhere, along with your academic accomplishments and leadership roles.
- Curriculum vitae (CV).
- Official or unofficial transcript.
- One letter of recommendation from a psychology faculty member.
We strongly advise requesting the faculty recommendation as soon as you begin your online application. You may submit your application before your recommender uploads their letter; however, all materials, including recommendation letters, must be received by the application deadline. Letters will be accepted only up until that deadline.

- Commitment to and interest in the field of psychology
