Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by NYS Home Care Providers Foundation
Introduction
Each spring the Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship supports New York State nurses who are preparing to advance their careers in home and community-based care. The award is intended for licensed Registered Nurses (RNs) or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) holding an active New York State license who plan to expand their skills through education or entrepreneurial pursuits that strengthen the home-care sector.
Who may apply
Applicants must be current RNs or LPNs licensed in New York State. Candidates should describe, in an essay, their motivation for pursuing a career in home and community-based care and outline how additional education or business-related training will help them achieve their goals.
Permitted uses of award funds
Scholarship proceeds can be applied toward tuition, required textbooks, specialty training or certifications, and other expenses directly related to education.
Selection process
Submissions are evaluated by the Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship Committee, a panel made up of leaders from the home care field, who review applications and select the recipient.
Key dates and award presentation
The program is promoted beginning in March; the application itself becomes available in April on the Community Foundation for a Greater Capital Region’s scholarship portal. Completed applications must be received by June 1. The recipient will be notified in early August, and the scholarship will be formally presented at the Annual Awards Luncheon during the HCP Annual Management Conference & Exhibition in October.
About Edna A. Lauterbach and the fund
Edna A. Lauterbach was a nurse and influential figure in New York’s home-care community, serving as president of two home care agencies in Newburgh. She championed the vital role of skilled nurses in home care and encouraged young people to enter the field through nursing. As an entrepreneur, she felt a lack of formal business training limited her opportunities, which helped inspire the scholarship established in her memory. The Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship Fund is administered with support from the NYS Home Care Providers Foundation (HCPF) to encourage New York nurses to pursue further education and build careers that enable older New Yorkers to remain safely in their homes and communities.
