Western Lane Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization chartered for the purpose of receiving, administering and distributing charitable funds for the benefit of residents in western Lane County, Oregon. Resources come from individuals, businesses and other organizations. WLCF selects qualified recipients for funding, based on need, in the form of grants, scholarships and donations for specific projects. The area served by the Foundation is Florence, Mapleton, Dunes City and Deadwood, Oregon.

When can I apply for a scholarship as a graduating Siuslaw or Mapleton Senior?

Applications are accepted between January 1 and February 28 each year for the following academic year. Applications may be mailed to PO Box 1589 Florence OR 97439 or emailed to wlcf@wlcfonline.org no later than March 13th.

How complicated is it to apply?

The scholarship application itself requires student contact information, educational history, career goals, and information about the student's finances. Unless you are applying for vocational or community college scholarships you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and provide the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) report.

Where can I find an application?

Applications are available here, at Siuslaw and Mapleton School District counseling offices, as well as Lane Community College- Florence campus.

How do I know which scholarship to apply for?

Scholarships are available for traditional four-year colleges as well as community colleges and approved trade schools. Criteria is specific to each scholarship and may consider academic achievement, financial need, field of study and/or school attending. Applicants will be considered for all scholarships they are eligible for.

Am I eligible for a scholarship if I'm planning to attend a vocational school?

We have many scholarships for vocational students. Expected Family Contribution (EFC) report from the FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) provided by the Department of Education are optional. Please provide if you have filed.

What is the average amount awarded?

Awards range from $500 to $20,000.

How are recipients selected?

A scholarship committee reviews applications and selects recipients based on donor criteria. In specific situations, applicants may be contacted for personal interviews.

How are awards paid?

Scholarship awards are paid directly to the educational institution once the student's enrollment has been verified.
