AFDO Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Association of Food and Drug Officials
Introduction
In 1981, the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) used surplus funds from the 75th Anniversary celebration of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act to create a scholarship program. From that fund the George M. Burditt Scholarship and the Betsy B. Woodward Scholarship were established, each providing $2,500 annually to a deserving student entering their third year of college in the United States. A third $2,500 award, the Denise C. Rooney Scholarship, was added in June 2008 and is also presented annually to a qualified student entering their third year of undergraduate study in the U.S.
Eligibility
Applicants must demonstrate:
- A commitment to a career involving research, regulatory work, quality control, or teaching related to foods, drugs, or consumer product safety.
- Evidence of leadership ability.
- Academic standing of at least a 3.0 grade point average for the first two years of undergraduate study.
Applicants should be entering their third year of undergraduate college within the United States. (Note: the application materials state that only juniors preparing to enter their senior year are eligible; applicants should review their class standing carefully when applying.)
