Frequently Asked Questions
What majors or fields qualify?
The National Science Foundation classifies STEM as life sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, computer science, and mathematics. Applicants studying in any of these areas meet the program’s academic-field requirement.
Are students enrolled at institutions outside the United States eligible?
Yes. Students attending any accredited university, including institutions outside the U.S., may apply.
How will the scholarship funds be delivered?
Award funds are sent directly to the recipient’s university. The school will then make the payment available to the student according to its own disbursement procedures.
Can previous GeneTex Scholarship recipients apply again?
Yes. Individuals who have previously received the GeneTex Scholarship are permitted to submit another application.
I haven’t declared a major yet. Am I eligible?
No. The program is intended for applicants who have declared a STEM major or are already enrolled in a STEM graduate program.
Are there restrictions on how I can use the money?
No. Recipients may use the scholarship funds however they see fit; GeneTex does not impose usage restrictions.
How are applications evaluated?
A review panel of three to five GeneTex employees will assess eligible applications. The award will be given to the applicant whose materials the committee determines best reflect and align with GeneTex’s values and mission.
What supporting documents must I submit?
Please provide your most recent academic transcript (an unofficial copy is acceptable) to verify good academic standing. If you are an incoming or transfer student, include a letter of acceptance or equivalent documentation showing you will attend the listed institution.
My essay is too long for the form. Can I submit it separately?
Yes. You may include your essay as an attachment or send it via email if it does not fit into the form fields.
When will the winner be notified?
The recipient will be selected and contacted within one to two weeks after the application deadline. The winner will also be posted to the GeneTex website shortly after notification.
