AFCEA STEM Major Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association
Overview
AFCEA provides several scholarship awards for students working toward STEM degrees. A single application will automatically be evaluated for every AFCEA STEM scholarship for which you qualify.
Available awards
- STEM Major Scholarship — $2,500
- Cyber Security Scholarship — $5,000
- Student Member Scholarship — $2,500
Who is eligible
Applicants must satisfy all of the following:
- Be an undergraduate student enrolled full time at a four‑year, accredited U.S. college or university (online programs are permitted).
- Hold sophomore or junior standing at the time you apply.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in the current academic program.
- Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.
Majors that qualify
Applicants must be pursuing one of these fields (list includes, but is not limited to):
- Aerospace Engineering
- Astronomy
- Biometry / Biometrics
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Forensics Science
- Computer Programming
- Computer Science
- Computer Systems
- Cybersecurity
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Geospatial Science
- Industrial Engineering
- Information Science

Who is not eligible
The following applicants do not qualify for these STEM Major Scholarships:
- Students enrolled at two‑year colleges (including community college students planning to transfer).
- Freshmen or seniors at four‑year institutions.
- High school seniors.
Use of funds
Scholarship monies depend on available funding. Awards must be used for tuition and required course‑related expenses only (for example, fees, textbooks, supplies, and any equipment required for university coursework).
Cyber Security Scholarship — additional requirement
In addition to meeting all STEM Major eligibility criteria, applicants for the Cyber Security Scholarship must be enrolled in one of these majors or an equivalent field that directly supports U.S. cyber operations:
- Cybersecurity
- Computer Science
- Digital Forensics
- Information Assurance
- Information Technology
- Electronic Engineering
- Other fields directly supporting U.S. cyber enterprises
Student Member Scholarship — additional requirement
Applicants for the Student Member Scholarship must meet all STEM Major eligibility criteria and must hold an active AFCEA membership: either a student membership or a Junior Enlisted membership.
Application materials and submission
All applications must include:
- A fully completed application form.
- At least one letter of recommendation from a professor at your current institution. Recommenders must submit their letters in PDF format by email to edfoundation@afcea.org. Applicants are responsible for coordinating the submission with their recommenders.
- Official transcript(s) covering all college‑level coursework, including the Fall 2025 semester. If current, in‑progress coursework is not yet listed on transcripts, provide registration documentation showing enrollment in those courses.
Transcript submission instructions
- Transcripts should be sent electronically by your school to edfoundation@afcea.org.
- If electronic submission is not available, official hard‑copy documents must be mailed to the address provided on the application no later than May 1, 2026. Applications will be considered incomplete unless all required materials are received by that deadline.
