MI Future Educator Fellowship

Overview
The MI Future Educator Fellowship provides a $10,000 scholarship to as many as 2,500 eligible future teachers each year. Awards are available to students who have been admitted to and are enrolled in an Educator Preparation Program (EPP) approved by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).
Eligibility
To qualify for the Fellowship, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Submit the annual MI Future Educator Fellowship application by June 15, 2026.
- File a current-year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Be a high school graduate.
- Have been admitted to and be enrolled in an eligible Educator Preparation Program (EPP) approved by Michigan’s State Board of Education.
- Be pursuing initial teacher certification.
- Be enrolled at a level considered full-time for the academic year, or the equivalent enrollment status if participating in an alternative certification pathway.
- Have reached the institution’s definition of Junior standing.
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Be a Michigan resident as of July 1 of the previous calendar year.
- If you are a dependent student, the person(s) listed as contributors on your FAFSA must also be Michigan residents.
- Residency will be verified using your FAFSA information.
- Execute a Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement (CTMA) when notified of eligibility. The CTMA requires recipients to teach in Michigan in a public school or a qualifying public preschool program for a number of years that corresponds to how many years they receive the Fellowship.
- The CTMA must be electronically signed no later than July 15, 2026.
How to apply
1. Complete and submit the current-year FAFSA.
2. Create an account on the MiSSG Student Portal.
3. Complete the 2025–26 MI Future Educator Fellowship application (applications for the 2025–26 award are currently open).
4. Submit the Fellowship application by the deadline: June 15, 2026.
What happens after you apply
- Your institution will verify your eligibility for the award.
- If eligible, you will be issued the Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement; you must e-sign the 2025–26 CTMA by July 15, 2026.
- Participating institutions request reimbursement from the State of Michigan for awarded funds.
- Scholarship payments are issued directly to institutions.
