Centennial Education Scholarship

Purpose
The Centennial Education Scholarship provides financial assistance to Oregon nursing students enrolled in pre-licensure programs (BSN or ADN) and to registered nurses pursuing a BSN at an accredited Oregon school of nursing. The award is intended to cover costs associated with completing a pre-licensure or BSN program, including tuition, fees, and other direct educational expenses.
Who is eligible
- Must be actively enrolled and currently taking core nursing curriculum courses in a nursing program in Oregon that is approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN).
- Eligible students include those in pre-licensure BSN or ADN programs and RNs enrolled in a BSN program at an accredited Oregon nursing school.
Selection criteria
Recipients are chosen by the Oregon Nurses Foundation scholarship committee using the following weighted criteria:
- Leadership: 35%
- Experiences with other cultures, minority groups, and underserved populations: 30%
- Potential future contributions to the nursing profession: 15%
- Demonstrated value of the scholarship to the applicant: 10%
- Residence or training in a certified shortage area: 10%
Award amount and renewal
One scholarship of $5,000 is awarded each year. The award is non-renewable, but past recipients may reapply in subsequent years. Scholarship funds are sent directly to the recipient’s educational institution to be applied toward tuition, fees, and other program-related costs.
Application limits and required materials
- Applicants may apply for only one Oregon Nurses Foundation scholarship per cycle.
- A complete application must include:
- The online application form (completed)
- Transcript(s) (unofficial copies are acceptable)
- Verification of current enrollment in core nursing courses at an OSBN-approved Oregon nursing school
- One letter of recommendation from a nursing faculty member (the electronic reference form provided in the application may be used). The faculty member may submit the letter directly to ONF; instructions for referees are available in the application’s reference section.
What the recommendation should address
The letter from the nursing faculty member should comment on:
- The applicant’s standing in the nursing program
- How long the recommender has known the applicant
- Specific examples of the applicant’s leadership
- Other relevant observations that support the application
Submission requirements and disqualification
All application materials must be submitted electronically to the Oregon Nurses Foundation and received by the deadline. Missing or incomplete documentation will result in disqualification.
Timeline
- March 15 – May 1: Applications are available online.
- May 1 (by end of day): Deadline for electronic receipt of applications. (Applications must be submitted by end of day May 1, 2025.)
- May 2 – May 31: Scholarship Committee review period.
- July 30: Award recipients are announced.
- Fall term: Scholarship funds are transmitted to the educational institution at the start of the term.
